I myself love story driven co-op games and in my opinion the supply is greatly under the demand for this type of games even though there´s a great market out there just waiting to be taken over. The last time I had a great co-op game I could play with my friends was in 2009 when resident evil 5 came out. And we sure played that game, up to the point of beating it in the hardest possible setting without exploiting any infinite ammo unlocks or such and going through both of the expansions released for it later [on hardest possible difficulty].
Back to the matter at hand, dead island looks great! The melee mechanics are a treat for the eye and the zombie models are top notch, the enemy archetypes that I´ve seen (so far 4 types) all look interesting and without a doubt each give you a different kind of challenge. The setting is very clever giving us a lush tropical sunny island as a starting point while going for the dark atmosphere later on during the storm that hits the island. I cant wait to get a try at the "bit more realistic" crafting system compared to the one in dead rising and see how the experience system works. As of the characters and the plot, I don´t have that much to say, I´ve herd that they are blunt, one dimensional and boring. For me though those aspects aren´t driving me to buy this game in the first place. I am a huge sandbox game fan and I have played most of them you name it [GTA, Elderscroll, Fallout etc...] and giving me a game with that open world feel combined with multiplayer co-op which its heavily based on is like giving catnip to a cat.
All I can say in closure is that I am waiting for this game with allot of anticipation and after two more days I will be holding it in my hands and hopefully playing it right afterwards.
